How to Engage your Audience on Social Media Marketing

If there’s one thing you can’t do too much of in social media marketing, it’s interacting with followers. Participation is the one social media activity that doesn’t have diminishing returns.

The biggest difference between social media marketing and traditional marketing is that you can instantly interact and communicate with followers. This presents businesses with an opportunity that they’ve never had before. Your job is to make sure you use it to its full potential.

A recent Entrepreneur article talks about interaction in social media marketing. According to the article, businesses should take the extra step to interact regularly with followers:

“Make members of your community feel welcome, understood and heard. This means celebrating with and listening and responding to the people in your audience. Share content that solves their problems. Ask for user-generated content (and do something with it). And participate in the conversation.”

There’s no better way to engage followers than to speak one-on-one with them. Unlike a print advertisement or TV ad, each follower is given personal attention.

Consider the difference this makes for consumers when they browse social media. Most businesses just post content once or twice a week and hope that it increases their brand visibility. Sure, these posts may pop up on users’ newsfeeds, but they’re not actually talking to anybody.

On the other hand, when businesses ask open-ended questions and reply with thoughtful answers, consumers see a completely different side of the business. In terms of their social media interface, they don’t just see a post on their newsfeed, but also a new notification.

There are many tactics and strategies out there to improve your social media marketing. Before you get too deep into planning, remember that you can never interact too much with consumers. There’s such a thing as posting too much or sending too many emails, but replying to followers doesn’t have a set limit.
